Daniel Thomas is a master's student in Regional Studies at the Harriman Institute, focusing on Donetsk and Luhansk regions. He studies how historians and activists from Donetsk and Luhansk regions challenge Russian disinformation about their homelands while shedding light on the regions' "Ukrainianness" and challenging pro-Soviet/pro-Russian "Myth of Donbas." Before Columbia, Daniel taught English in Kyiv and later volunteered in Poland, teaching history and civics to refugee students. A 2020 graduate of Emory University with a BA in History, he enjoys reading a wide range of literature, writing fiction, keep up to date with the Ukrainian literary world, and hopes to return to playing piano.
