Emma Larson is a current master's student at Columbia University's Harriman Institute of Russian, Eurasian, and Eastern European Studies. There, she focuses on the gender, social, and political history of Central Asia. Emma has held professional positions at the Wilson Center, the Council on Foreign Relations, and CAPS Unlock, a Central Asia-focused policy center based in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Her current research revolves around contemporary gender politics in Kazakhstan and aims to support Western actors fighting for women's empowerment in the region in historically informed and culturally sensitive ways.
