Rachel Amran is an M.A. candidate in Regional Studies: Russia, Eurasia, and Eastern Europe with the Harriman Institute at Columbia University. She obtained her B.S. from The George Washington University, where she double majored in Public Health and Russian Language and Literature. With a professional background in healthcare policy, her thesis focuses on health and human rights in the Republic of Georgia. She currently researches war crimes and human rights violations with the Europe and Central Asia Division of Human Rights Watch. Her academic interests include memory politics, transitional justice, and decolonization in the post-communist space.
